Setting up recs collections on dreamwidth
Nov. 2nd, 2022 09:45 amIf I was going to set up my recs collections here on Dreamwidth, what would I need to do?
- Identify what information is captured in collection membership only. e.g. for MDZS/Untamed, I used to have a bookmarker's tag MDZS because there is no overarching tag that encompasses MDSZ & Untamed. But I got rid of that tag when I started using collections instead. Is there any other info I've stored like that?
- Develop a standard format & criteria for a recs list
- Experiment with dreamwidth tags to determine how best to use them (try to avoid replicating tags already on AO3)
- Think about a posting schedule. Should I promo rec collections? probably. but not all at once
- Create a master post on dreamwidth linking to all recs, my AO3, my twitter
- change twitter profile link to a master post here on dreamwidth
- Convert each AO3 collection to a rec:collection post here & a tweet
- Create a twitter collection of rec collection promo posts
- Should I duplicate recs here & on twitter? yeah I reckon I should
- But given the twitter character limit, it may be best to post there first & copy over here
- Can I create an IFTTT script to do it?
- rec
- collection
- mega
- fic
- vid
- meta
- collection

If you're doing a recs master list, just know that an updated post won't reappear in people's reading lists! Most friends I know who do recs make posts on whatever schedule they have (some do weekly, some do random lol) and tag with their recs tags and the fandom(s), and then update their master/sticky post with links to the individual posts. Or they update their master post and then make a separate post to let people know they've updated it.
